Respondus LockDown Browser - Students
What is Respondus LockDown Browser?
Respondus LockDown Browser is a special browser for taking quizzes in MyUni. It prevents you from printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications during an assessment. It also stops unauthorised extensions or plug-ins that normal browsers may allow. If a MyUni quiz requires that LockDown Browser be used, you will not be able to access the quiz until LockDown browser is initiated. LockDown Browser is installed in student computer labs (Windows only) and may be required by instructors for doing an invigilated MyUni quiz.

Installing LockDown Browser
The student version of LockDown Browser for your own device uses a standard Windows or Mac installer. This download link is unique for your institution and can be used by faculty or students.

LockDown Browser has already been installed on university student computer labs by Technology Services (Windows computers only). Please contact Technology Services via phone 8313 3000 (Option 1) or contact us via the MyIT Portal Links to an external site.
Taking an Assessment (Canvas Classic Quizzes)
- Locate the “LockDown Browser” shortcut on the desktop and double-click it.
- If prompted to close a blocked program (e.g. screen capture, instant messaging) choose Yes when prompted.
- Login to your MyUni course.
- Navigate to the quiz and click Take a Quiz.
- Once a quiz has been started with LockDown Browser, you cannot exit until the Submit Quiz button is clicked.
What if a standard browser is used for a Canvas Classic Quiz?
If the settings for a quiz require that LockDown Browser be used for a Canvas Classic Quiz, it cannot be accessed with a standard browser. As shown, a warning message will indicate that LockDown Browser is required for the quiz.
What if the quiz is being done using Canvas New Quizzes?
To do a Canvas New Quiz on your own device follow the below instructions (or follow these instructions as a pdf
Download or follow these instructions as a pdf):
- Log into your MyUni course with the Regular browser you were using to access MyUni, and access the test from your course.
- If you already installed LockDown Browser, click 'Open' on the pop-up window: This site is trying to open LockDown Browser.; if not, install the LockDown browser via the links on this page.
- The lockdown browser will be started on your device. If prompted to close a blocked program (e.g. screen capture, instant messaging) choose Yes when prompted.
- Your assessment will be loaded in the lockdown browser and you are ready to answer questions.
- Once you started the New Quizzes, you can not exit the quiz until you Submit the quiz.
- Click 'Exit' to exit the LockDown Browser.
Please be Noted: if you are using an old version of Safari, you might have issues when logging in MyUni with a blurring dashboard which you can't go anywhere. We recommended you use either Firefox or Google Chrome on Step 1.
